Inspection code 226? Please Help!!!

Inspection code 226? Please Help!!!
I am new to this group and would like some help please.
I went to get my truck inspected yesterday and it failed the emmsions part.
there was no check engine light on or anything, but the inspctor said tell your mechanic it was code 226 and he should know what that means.
I have called my mechanic and he said that year only goes up to 87, any ideas?
This vehicle is a 91 silverado, obd1, 350
Please help, I have 15 days to correct the problem.
