Default Looking for a Silverado, need input

Hey guys, new member here so excuse me for my noobishness. I am currently in a 99 maxima, and while the mpg is great, I need/really really want a truck. My gf is going to get my maxima while I get the silverado and I was just wondering what years you all thought were the best, and when I go to look at one, what should I look for, etc.. I know any info is helpful so I am looking for atleast a 2008 and up model, 4x4, 4 door. I know I want the v8, so from that info I hope you guys can help point me in the right direction!!

thanks in advance!

say goodbye to good gas mileage unless you look for a 1500 with the 4.8L
probably not the input you were looking for

well I know the mpg will drop, luckily, I live literally 45 seconds away from my job, and since were keeping the maxima we will still have that good mpg for long trips and such. I was just kinda wondering if there was a specific year to avoid or anything, Ive heard the general rule of dont buy the first year of a new body style, just wanting to see what you guys say

I put some miles on a 2001???? 1500 4x4 with the 4.8 and got 26 mpg out on the HWY - regular cab 4-wd.

My 2011 2500 with the 6.0L averages about 14 mpg. I was hoping for better - I can always dream can't I?

Stay away from any year with a 8100 lt engine unless you own a gas station!!!

#1 rule for trucks: Don't buy them for the gas mileage. Trucks are meant for towing (And looks). They're not meant to get great mileage.

In your OP, TDMonroe65, it seems as if you pretty much have what you want in mind. What will the main purpose of the truck be?

This 1-ton dually has the 8.1 - we use it to tow our snocat for grooming snowmobile trails.

The snocat weighs 18,000 pounds. Truck, cat and trailer with no gear or extra fuel tips the scales just over 27,000 pounds.

The truck is used exclusively for towing the cat and has over 50,000 trouble free miles on it - impressive and the biggest reason I bought a Chevy this time.

Empty on the HWY with the cruise set it gets 12 mpg and 4.5 mpg towing the cat on flat roads - my 2011 6.0L gets 14.5 - and needless to say the 8.1 has way more power.

I wouldn't buy an everyday truck with the 8.1 either and they don't have the pulling power that a diesel does but still not a bad engine.

the noise you hear at the 1-2 shift was a broken motor mount

Hey Tdmonroe65,

Once you narrow down the model year, please do not hesitate to reach out via private message. I can locate a Certified Pre-Owned Silverado in your area.
