ram air intake system
i am looking to put a ram air intake system on my truck its a 1998 k1500, i have it lifted 3 inches and do some mudding, im worried if i put one one i could suck water up it and hydro lock my motor. but i drive a lot and i think it could benefit from some forced induction, i was thinking about custom making one, and putting a J pipe, like whats used in plumbing, that way any water that got up in there would fall down in that. i could be worrying about nothing though, any help?

FYI forced induction is like supercharging or turbocharging.
forcing air into the intake.
And I think what you are talkin about is a cold air intake.
How about you just get a volant cold air intake system?
it comes with a contained heat shield that will help keep heat and water
out.

I am about to put an LS1 in my 95 which has the intake up front so I'm gonna
route it to the side, and get a hood with 2 off centered RAM air intakes
so I can supply my cold air intake with actual cold air which is the point.
But I dont go mudding.
IIWY I'd just get the volant and call it a day.
Volant and airaid are my preffered brands.

ok your not getting what im saying, i know forced air induction is like a supercharger, except there is no hp draw and npt as much boost and only really makes a difference at high speeds, which is what i want, give my truck more ***** on the highway. im gonna close off my air box ( i currently am running a k&n filter and the lid off of the air box) ill put the lid back one, cut a hole in it and run a tube up front somewhere that it will get forced thru the intake. im just trying to figure out where to run it

I had just bought the Volant intake for my 03 5.3 and i went the extra mile and got the Ram air intake that drops down from the bottom of the airbox (theres a mounting plate you had to remove under the old intake to get this pipe up) and then bolted underneath your front tow hook. really slick and good design maybe you can make something like this or just buy one
But for you maybe dont run it down that low into the front valance and just bring it up behind. you can get true cold air without going down low with your intake but if mudding is your concern then this intake really isnt for you and you might be better off doing like what the tj jeeps do and run a upwards forced intake above everything
