Default Need work diagram - Silverado Heater Core

Turned on my heater today (first time in months) and the smell of antifreeze was overwhelming. Windows all steamed up.

After lots of searching, I finally pulled the black plastic cover from around the heating components under the dash board. Antifreeze leaking pretty good under there.

The problem is, after pulling off the cover and the lower right half of the dash board including the glove box, I am not sure how to get to the heating core to see what is leaking. Is it a hose or is the whole thing in need of replacement. And if so, how the heck do I replace it?

If anyone has a job diagram, I would appreciate it.

It is a 2000 chevy silverado 1500ls, 5.3l engine, 4wd

Default Here is what my book says on your vehicle

To Remove:
  1. Remove the HVAC assembly.
  2. Remove the heater core cover screws.
  3. Remove the heater core cover from the HVAC assembly.
  4. Remove the heater core gasket from the core.
  5. Remove the heater core from the HVAC module assembly

To Install:
  1. Install the heater core to the HVAC module assembly.
  2. Install the heater core cowl gasket to the HVAC module assembly.
  3. Install the heater core cover and screws to the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Install the HVAC module assembly to the vehicle.
I hope this helps.

It turned out to get to it, I had to take the whole dash out. That was not fun.
