I just purchased a 2006 Checy Crew Cab V8.

177,200 miles. what type of oil should I put in it and should I add lucas oil treatment to it. synthetic or not?

Hi- I have a 2006 Chevy Crew Cab V8 myself. I use and always use 5w30 full syn thats what recommended. You could add a the Lucas additive to it, but if you want. I have never had a problem. I have used the Lucas additive before on my 96 GMC Yukon 4x4 , 220,000 miles no problem.

I run a 5w30 synthetic in the summer and 10w30 in the winter

I use Mobil One 5W30. You could also look for a high mileage oil just keep it a synthetic for best protection.

Nothing against Lucas oil treatment but if your wanting to clean that engine out some, consider Seafoam. That stuff works great.

im a strong believer of using the same oil type all throughout the life of the truck even though its old tech sayings so my opinion if you use regular oil before continue using it and dont switch just my opinion

Well that i'm not sure of. its a 1 owner truck before I got it and i'm not sure what he put in it before. Does anyone know the benifits of running synthetic to non?

would it hurt if the one i go with is the opposite of what was origionally put in there

It has 177K so i'm not sure if i want to "clean it out" might do more harm than anything.


so im looking @ a 5W30 now just a brand. IMO i think all oils are basically the same i'm sure some could be better than others but is it enough for us to even notice unless were in a lab breaking it down.

I have a 2006 chevy silverado crew cab 06 and i use the Castrol for high mileage vehicles 20w-50, my truck has 139k miles and i use that oil because i think that a vehicle with more than 100k mil. must use a thicker oil because of the wearing the engine. even if the truck had good services before, the engine has a limited lifetime

any of you guys who have an 06 know how to disable the stabilitrak?

I know you've already received a lot of great feedback; I just wanted to chip in some information that can also be found in the owner's manual on page 5-22:
"Look for two things:
• GM6094M
Your vehicle’s engine requires oil meeting GM
Standard GM6094M. You should look for and use
only an oil that meets GM Standard GM6094M.
• SAE 5W-30
As shown in the viscosity chart, SAE 5W-30 is best
for your vehicle.
These numbers on an oil container show its
viscosity, or thickness. Do not use other viscosity
oils such as SAE 20W-50."
