Hey guys i got a restored 1985 k10 with a rebuilt chevy 350 bored over .30 to a 355. At idle the oil pressure is 60 psi. Is this ok??? And cruising its about 77 psi. Im using shell rotella 15w-40 for the oil because thats what the guy said to use. Any answers guys??

How long ago was it rebuilt? Has it been broken in yet? It seems too high, maybe a lighter oil for now if it hasn't broken in yet. Try 5W-30. Also try a mechanical oil pressure gauge to make sure you are getting an accurate reading.

If the engine isn't broken in yet use 5w30, 15w40 is way too thick for the tight clearances of the new bearings.

Oil pressure can drop out quite a bit after

the engine warms up. Do you still have 60PSI

after the engine's been running 30 minutes?

I personally had never heard of a rebuilt or new

engine using 15W40, either.

The engine was broken in i talked to the guy who sold me the truck and rebuilt the engine, he's been rebuilding and overhauling engines for 18+ years including race car engines ill talk to him again and yes 60 psi after 30 min when driving its around 78-79 psi

I also have an aftermarket gauge set up all sport comp by auto meter so yes its a mechanical gauge

If the engine is broken in I would use 10w30, 15w40 use in non diesel engines is really only a last resort for those old worn out engines that should be rebuilt. I still say that the oil is way too thick for your engine.
