Default Is it ok to switch from 265/70R17 tires to 245/70R17's?

My 09 Silverado came with 265/70R17's and I'm getting ready to buy snows for it. Tire Rack lists 245/70R17's as an alternate, so I am thinking of going with that size because they are cheaper and I read they will get me better gas mileage than the 265's. If I make the change, will I need to get the speedometer recalibrated? Any other adverse results? I'm not concerned with the tires looking too skinny or anything like that. Thanks

The speedometer will read 4mph faster than what you are actually doing until you get it recalibrated.
You will also gain a little more power on takeoffs.
I had 245's for a while myself and yes, you will get slightly better MPG as well.

Thanks, Mille. One more quick question: Is speedo recalibration easy to do by the dealership and is it fairly inexpensive to have it done? I'm thinking of switching to 245's for summer use as well.

Well what happened is I bought the truck and the guy had 22" rims on it.
I put Thurman on Craigslist and just wanted to do an even swap for some
Regular wheels. So a guy with a suburban came over and we just switched.
The suburban guy has 245's on house stock wheels so that is how I got them.
I didn't want to keep the 245's cuz with the way my sportside looks, the tires looked
Unproportional and I just didn't like it so I was gonna put 265's on after the 245's wore.
So basically I didn't get them recalibrated and the guy I got the truck from never
Calibrated it for the rims cuz as soon as I has 265's put on the speedometers was
Reading the correct speed.
I don't think a dealer has to do it.
You might just be able to get it done at most mechanic shops.

any shop with a scan tool can go into the ebcm and change the tire size calibration. engine load and vehicle speed are important inputs for trans shifting. I went from 17 to 20's and without the speedo correction my upshifts were delayed.

if the tires on the same axle are different rolling circumferences...the differential will have to walk...so fix the flat pronto...extended driving with mismatched tires in not good.

for full time all wheel drive.. is a definite tcase killer.

Chevrolet cars are popular for many users. In that sense here also use of tire sizes 245 and 265. The uses and differences of 245 and 265 facilities also as like as ford f150 tires. Since this tire size is optional and for the truck, you will have no problems with it. And your fuel economy may suffer a little due to the very weight of the tires and the best gripping power. You will also find here truck stops a little faster than the normal one. So this tire's choosing importance is normal for you. So if having a ford f150 truck car like others anyone have to maintain your car tires technically. The difference between 245 & 265 is 10 mm. Along with all differences you can understand that for switching 245 to 265.
