Overheated then froze
In the middle of replacing the water pump on my 1992 1500 pickup, with a 305,
the Polar Vortex swept through. I wrapped the engine in a blanket with a heat pad which did not work. There are now distinct rusty cracks on both sides of the block. The oil is very milky.
Before I got it the truck was garage kept, it has 125 K miles. Everything else is good. It still cranks up and runs.
I'm trying to decide the best course of action. Crate motor, junkyard? Going with a 350 instead? Parting it out?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh wow! Sorry that you lost your engine. If the oil is milky, it means that the inside cracked also.
I'm serious as a heart attack here. Stay off the Internet and those wham-bam 'super' engines. Go directly to the closest Chevy parts room and order a Good Wrench. They are VERY affordable and you get a killer warranty.
