Default Reverse Lights Not Working on 1995 C1500 Silverado

I have a 1995 C1500 Silverado. My reverse lights have not worked since I have had the truck, and after getting nowhere when replacing both bulbs, I think I have narrowed it down to one of two things. It is either the pieces that the bulbs plug into, or more likely the switch on the transmission. Anyone else had this same problem? If so, please tell me what I should try first.

Try putting a meter at the sockets to see if there is voltage there. If there is then change the sockets. If not then look at the reverse switch and the wiring to the rear lights.
