Big Daddy did you ever find a solution to the rubbing/groaning noise in the steering column?? I'm desperately looking for a "do it yourself" solution.
Thanks!

I think I know the exact sound and I have come to the conclusion that it must be the intermediate steering shaft, based on where the sound comes from and the overall reliability of the rest of the vehicle. Check out this link... there are updated parts to fix this. Looks like about $95 from GM Parts Direct, 1 hr of your time and 2 bolts.

Good Luck!

Default Left turn squeal

I need help!! When I turn my truck to the left to make a full turn it squeals like a pig. It sounds like its coming from the area of the left wheel. I think it's only when the truck is cold. Any ideas??

My '05 used to do that. Seems to have stopped since I had my 4WD go out and had the transfer case and actuator replaced. Hope that's not your problem.

Silverado Christian,

What model year is your vehicle? Have you had any luck in getting this addressed since your post?

Default Left turn squeal

My truck is a 2006 2500hd silverado. When the truck is cold (been sitting for a few hours) and I make a left turn onto a street, it squeals. The sound is either quiet or loud. Sounds like a pig is under my wheel. I took the tire off and sprayed silicon spray on the all rubber parts. Helped a little but noise is still there. Any ideas?? I have a new 1 year old steering pump and fluid is full

no clunks or bangs like I've read about.

Steers fine, back roads, and hwy.

P/S fluid is full.....no leaks underneath.

serpentine belt is tight.

Can anyone out there guide me in the right direction please ?

Would like to do this repair myself.

Thank-you in advance.

If you look under driver side dash, on the floor close to the firewall, you will see where the steering shaft travels through the cab into the engine bay. There is a rubber seal from the floor, around the steering shaft. Use some form of spray silicone lubricant at the top of this rubber seal and allow silicone lubricant to travel down into the seal. That should stop the rubber sounding squeak when turning your steering wheel.
