Default Running Loud and Proud! Question on Exhaust

So I've got a 1990 Chevy K1500 Z71 (Extended Cab) that I picked up from a buddy (nice and cheap too, before I realized all the problems with it) but, as I'm a young guy with no money and wanting to show off at the car meets as far as sound goes, I've been wondering if anyone knows a way that I can boost the rumble of the truck? I've considered a few options:

(Truck is tagged historic. No Inspection or Emissions on it :3)
1: Cut the exhaust off before the Cat Converter and see how that sounds.

2: Take it to a shop and have them straight pipe from the headers to just behind the doors.

Now, I don't exactly have the money to take it to the shop, but I don't want to commit to just cutting stuff off without knowing if it can screw anything up. Not really looking for performance (as the truck is run into the ground as it is) just looking to make it nice and loud.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The Engine light comes on and off, though the radio's been removed and I have no idea how they managed to slaughter the wiring (converted to push button start, wires ducktaped (by me) everywhere to keep them out of the way...)

I had a friend who works for Ford tell me to cut it after the Cat, otherwise it'll be too loud and I'll hate myself for it after awhile. That's on my to-do list right now and see how that sounds with just a straight cut off.

I have no welding skills what-so-ever (I'm a computer geek, not so much a car guy )

Thanks for your response and any future ones, I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

Check laws first, here in NC even though my 95 doesn't require emission testing the exhuast shop can't remove cat converter by law.

I had my cat removed put true duals on it with thrush mufflers 3 in pipes.
We dont have inspections here in fla so I can get away with it.
it sounds hot and if i need to wake the mufflers i can or run smooth have a nice rumble.
