Newbie here with a question.. I just bought a 2000 Z71 107,000 miles off of Ebay from Minnoseta (I have a 92 Z71 with 245,000 miles on it. I'm still keeping it as a farm truck.) I found somebody there to drive it and check it out.. I got the OK and bid on it and won it.
The fellow drives it here to Tenn 800 miles. It looks great I drive it like it and pay him. I'm now taking him to the Memphis AIRPORT. I have driven 85 miles and the SERVICE 4X4 light comes on.. I ask him what is the deal. He tells me it did not come on all the way down here 800 miles. He tells me he used 4x4 in Iowa and not to worry about the light. It did this in the summer but the light goes off and won't come back on for a while. NOW I'm looking at the 4x4 strip and the yellow light by the 2x goes OFF.. He assures me when I cut it off the light will not come back on.

Ok we get to the AIRPORT he tells me ok cut it off.I do wait a min and cut on and the light is NOT on.. I put in 4x4 it works, I put in 4 low and it locks in..

I drive home 110 miles and the light does not come back on. Now it has been 3 days of driving and it has not come on..

Anybody got any Ideals on what it might be and how to fix..

When i bought my 2000 two years ago mine did this same thing it would come on and go off the light would. I found it was the switch there where you push it from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. The dealer i bought it from replaced it for me since it did this when i test drove it. I think it will trow a code when the light is on stating its the switch on the dash. Thanks

Its the switch on the dash on the other side of the button you push in to change it from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive.

Now I do not have any lights light on the 4x4 panal.. I put in neautral and push the 4low
button. It does not feel it locks down low.. MY 92 has he picture diagram showing front end locking? Now the light by the 2high is off..

Where is the switch to replace.. ANY PICTURES??

When i start the truck ALL lights on the 4x4 panel comes on at one time.
Last night I went out started the car.. Now the 2x light comes on. Now I put can put in 4Xlow.. It locks right down......

I had a similar problem with my 1999. My fuses had corrosion onthe tips. The fuses weren't blown, just corroded. You might want to check them before you dig into something else.
