Squeek ONLY when in Reverse
I can't figure this one out, it seems like its coming from the driveshaft (due to the speed of the squeek) but why would it only squeek when in reverse? Forward sounds fine. I checked the yolk, and u-joints by spraying wd-40 on them and moving the truck backwards, still squeeking. Any help would be much appreciated...2001 silverado 1500 4.8 ext cab

yes thats the one that has caused this very same noises and only when the truck is going in reverse. i changed the u joint that is most near the rear and it fixed the noise. now why it only done this in reverse i have no clue but it fixed it. this has happened two times on my truck. u might try greasing it if it has a zerk fitting.wont fix it but might help it last alittle longer. just my guess.does your truck have a mid shaft bearing or (carrier bearing) i have had to change it also and they can make noise when there going out.some are greaseable mine was not i had to change it. dont know if this will help . good luck

I had the same noise on my 2006 Avalanche, it was the rear u-joint going bad. I replaced it and the noise went away, the u-joints run about $15.00 and if you know what you are doing it takes about 30 minutes to replace it.

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who replied to this thread. I changed the U-Joint today and no more squeek !! It was the most rear u joint on the drive shaft, I also greased anything else I could while it was taken down. It only cost me about $15.
