Default 4.3 to V8

I've got a 2000 GMC Sierra with a 4.3 in it that is on it's last leg. Rather then work on it, I'd rather drop a V8 in it. I would like to hear yall's opinions/knowledge on a few things.

Will the 4.8 be much different than the 4.3 v6 or should i go bigger?

Will a V8 bolt up to the trany?

What type of conversion kit will I need to get?

My knowledge on the differences between the two set ups is limited. So I appreciate yall's help in advance.
