Temp gauge not working

I have a 2000 Silverado with a 5.7 and the tempature dgauge does not work. I replaced the sender but still not working. What is there to check between the sender and the gauge? Not like the old days when the wire went to the back of the gauge.

Prob the guage cluster. Chevy has alot of problems with that. My oil pressure gauge does not work. '02 1500HD
