Default need guidance on transmission trouble

i have a 97 chevy siverado 5.7 ltr w/ 200k miles on it. it still runs great well it did until i was drivinng & when shifting from first to 2nd I heard a pop then a whining noise and it was slipping bad then all of a sudden it caught. when running through gears it slips in first then to shift into 2nd and 3rd you have to accelerate and let off gas and i have no overdrive. and when driving if i let off gas it slips again when i accelerate again

VERY GENTLY ease it into your shop and pull the transmission. The reverse input shell is slipping on the ring gear.

it whines even when it is pulling good (after it catches of course) if that helps diagnose anything. i have pleanty of experience turning wrenches under the hood and zero when it comes to transmissions. i really want to get opinions so that i dont get bent over when i take it to a mechanic.

They are going to bend you over, no matter what. We live in a "screw your neighbor" world.

I just finished one for a guy. He had quotes ranging all the way from $1500 to $2500...... my cost on the thing out the door was $97.10.

I've been calling local shops and the cheapest I've got is $1460. Im now thinking of getting a gear head buddy of mine to help (supervise) me fix it myself.
