i have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 ext cab. my buddy as work as the same truck. he said something about having his torsion bars cranked up a lil bit to heghten and level out the front of the truck. anyone have any experience with this and how good it works or not in conjuction with the smooth ride?

bar's
yeah it will work ,i did my 01 2500hd that i put a plow on it leveled it ,but bear in mind any thing you do will affect the ride . it increases the spring rate up front . but it's not to bad in the ride department .i don't notice it any more ,but you will have the front end aligned after words or tire wear will happen .

I did my 04 HD that way also and if it is done right to start with, it actually made the factory alignment better, started noticing better tire wear after I cranked the bars than before.

When you tighten them up, try to leave about 1/2" before the lower bump stops hit.
It will hit them and make an annoying noise.
