I have a 92 1500, just got it yesterday. It wasn't until I got home that I needed the 4WD, so imagine my dismay when shifting into 4H from 2H (floor shifter) resulted in squat Stopping and putting in neutral allows me to shift into 4L which got me home.

After being in 4L, it went right into 4H and everything seemed beautiful. Until I shifted back into 2H, and tried to shift into 4H again. I'm new to this model of shifting, but am I mistaken that I should be able to shift from 2H to 4H on the fly (at reasonable speeds).

Any suggestions before I take it into the shop? Fortunately, I bought this from a private owner, and the 2nd half of the payment is contingent on it being in excellent mechanical condition (because it's ugly as sin).

hey. You pretty much have to stop to shift from 2 to 4 wheel drive. with all my trucks that had a shift on the floor I had to stop or maybe it would shift in at a low speed (just about movin). I have an 07 now with the shift on the floor and I stop to put it in 4. I've been able to shift from 4 to 2 wheel drive on the fly at a reasonable speed. with your issuse having to go to 4 low then to 4 high im not sure about. I think with one of my older trucks (1978) I had to do that. not sure if it was a mechanical prob, or just the way the truck was.
