So yesterday I had the two front tires on my car replaced then later my husband and I went grocery shopping. We came out, got in the car and the gear shift was stuck in park. With some force my husband was able to get the shift into drive but over the course of last night and today the problem got worse. Finally I could not get the car to shift from park without the shift lock release key after getting stuck at a gas station. My dealer is closed Sunday so I was going to take it in Monday but I got home and could not get the key out of the ignition. I had to take the car into the dealer tonight an hour before the service department closes because of the key being stuck in there. They were unable to get the key out and had no clue what was wrong but they told me that other aveos had been coming in with the same problem. I had to leave it there and all of this with a screaming 4 month old in tow who did not understand why we didn't get out of the car at home.

Car is an automatic with 66k on it I bought the car used 2 years ago with 37k on it and this is the first problem I've had. All other work on the car has been basic maintainence to this point.

Anyone have any idea? I am broke after the tire replacement and very stressed that this is going to be a huge repair.

I have had the same problem with my 06 aveo.

Seems a solenoid went out but the problem is the part number thats on it is no longer a good part number!

Anyone know what the new part number is for part #: 96549376 GMDAT?

Have you check the transmission in your last service?

Has nothing to do with my transmission.

I finally found the new solenoid, installed it and my car works fine.

hi, hello there?... i'm a newby here. i bought an aveo (2003 model) a year ago for my daughter's use and she is very much satisfied with its performance. but lately, she complained that when she parked the car one time in the mall she cannot shift the lever to park and even on the reverse position. however, it can be shifted to d, 3, 2 and l, so she waited for the other car parked in front of her car to go (after 2 hrs) and drived the car back home. she noticed that the lever can now be shifted to park and tought that the problem was gone. but it happened again, so i just advised her not to park the car when there would be any obstruction in front of the car until the problem has been completely resolved.

could this also be the same solenoid problem (that has to be replaced) as what you experienced before?

I would say that the car is having the same problem as the others. I would start looking for the new part right now.

Most likely that is your problem but good luck finding that solenoid as Chevy is absolutely no help.

IMO I would just sell the car before any more problems develop.

Yeah, been here, done this.

What you're dealing with here is a transmission ignition interlock solenoid.

All they do(Supposedly, that is, besides aggravating the crap out of the driver)

is lock up the tranny in the event somebody tries to shift the car with the

ignition off?

YUP, the weekend, YUP, extremely inconvenient.

It's a dealer part, so what you do is have a mechanic take it out, then do the

right thing, LIE.

Sweetly smile, say "May I have that? I can't wait to go to the dealer and

spend 238.79$ special ordering one of these beauties! I'll bring the new one

ri-ight back for you to replace it."(CAR RUNS FINE WITHOUT IT)

Then drive away. Once you're out of sight, THROW THAT POS RIGHT IN THE

TRASH.

We did, and the car never ran better. And we've never been happier.

I didn't understood about what you spoke, what is the connection between the key getting stuck in the ignition and solenoid.
