Default Transmission Trouble 4L60E

left home this morning...drove about a half a mile..got into probably third gear....stopped at a light....went to turn....the transmission makes a noise and clunking like you dropped a driveshaft.....it stops forward motion....(this is a 4x4 if it matters)......coast to stop...i have first gear, and second gear, and reverse. if you put it in "D" or "3" it just revs, without doing anything...no moving or what not. if you put it into first or second...it makes the weird noise, and clunking sounds, but will move forward

any TSB related? it has 60K miles, out of warranty...never abused..just tow some jet skis once in a while.....thank you for your help

fantastic once they have a rebuild in them with the proper shift kit. i did fid out that the valves are titanium ***** into steel ports. over time the ports wear out and with a good shift kit you get the titanium sleeves to fix this design oversight. just watch your neck on the 1-2 shift. mine squeels tires now.

My4l60E has 200,000 and never has had a problem. I have pulled through the heat of the desert with the a/c on and a 25 foot trailer when the car had 150,000 miles on it. And we have pulled the trailer manylongtripsbefore that. I suppose some are good and some aren't.

Eric.
