Default 1999 Suburban Transfer Case Issues

Hello I am a recent owner of a high mile 2500 Suburban with push button 4x4. I have towed with it a few times and last time out I noticed a metallic hissing noise underneath the truck when driving less than 30 mph. Not knowing whether it was the brakes, or exhaust leak I took it to the shop for another unrelated issue and they told me it was the transfer case.

When I bought it I had all fluids checked and i think they had to add some to the TC. I took the truck to the dealership for a leaking power steering hose and I think they said the front seal was leaking. Could it be the seal on TC leaked all the fluid out? Is this noise indicating that there is definite damage or could they refill it and it operate correctly?

Thanks
Joe
