Has anyone had this problem come back after replacing the unit? My 09 Suburban just started doing this last night. Ug, it sucks

What angle did you stick the wire in to release the lock. Trying it on mine but can't get it to release...
I have a 2008 3/4 ton suburban

Default 2008 suburban liftgate... don't

Lurker John here... check in some but rarely post ... till I have a problem

happened today started with the button on the rear handle... I can hear the latch assembly start to run and the latch will release partially... gate will move about 1" BUT IS STILL LATCHED

gate does not come up but I can hear the lift motor running then a 'bump' Switch on the console is correct and has no effect on the liftgate... key fob, same.

I removed enough panels to look at the lift motor and nothing seems worn or bent or broken It seems that the motor will start to run but not cycle completely... If I raise and lower the hatch manually I see the gears and motor moving so nothing is stuck.

Really like this feature and would like to fix it... Burb is a 2008 with 64K mile and out of warranty... vin # 3GNFC16J78G149110

any and all help appreciated..

thanks
John

Default Help

I just bought (12 days ago) a 2008 Chevy Tahoe z71 with 114,000 miles. Has a power lift gate that worked great until today. I went to open it and it goes up 1/3 of the way and then closes again. If I turn off the lift gate and open it manually, it won't stay up and I have to hold it up there. I contacted the dealer where I bought it and it is an "as is" sale. What do I need to fix it? I'm hoping if they won't help, then I can fix it. Anyone know?

Welcome to the forum.

If the lift gate will open w/ power if you assist it, then you need to replace the gas springs. If you do, be sure to support the lift gate w/ a 2X4 or similar as it is very heavy and the power lift mechanism will not hold it up.

Yes the motor runs and opens the door partway and then it closes. I just bought a left and right side shock (or whatever it's called). Wish me luck I hope it's not difficult. Lol
