2007 Suburban Transmission Fluid Change - Need Advice
My 2007 Suburban is due for a transmission fluid change/flush. Is this something that I can do or should I take it in to the dealer to have done. I called the dealer this morning and the price was $110 for the flush and fluid change. Transmission filter replacement is an additional $70.
I have no problem taking it in to have it done, but if it's something I can handle doing myself, I will. However after talking with the dealer this morning a couple of questions arose and wondered if I can get some opinions here.
First off, the dealer stated that they don't recommend replacing the filter anymore on newer GM vehicles since they're mesh filters. Mine would qualify as one of these vehicles. Is this true?
Secondly, they also stated that a flush is not needed for my vehicle. Just a fluid change. Thoughts?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Changing the filter is a thing of the past. The only time it is done now is if the pan is leaking. Unless it is flushed you are only having a small fraction of the fluid changed. The trans most likely holds over 10 quarts, dropping the pan only changes 3-4. At work we use a BG flush machine which runs 17 quarts through the trans which ends up doing a 100% fluid change. Before we flush we run a cleaner through and after a conditioner is put in. You may want to double check with them on the price, your truck uses DEX VI which is expensive. So if their price is parts and labor it seems very low.

I just got a quote from a local dealer of $1000 to replace fluids in all of these. At 80000 some miles its way overdue. Is there really no DIY with this?

I paid right under $150 at the dealer to replace the transmission fluid. I think I remember seeing the transmission only has like 6 or so quarts...I remember thinking it was very low considering my Acura TL hold 9 quarts.
but that would also explain the low cost to replace the fluid at a dealership.
to the OP - yes you can do it yourself but you will not save much $ vs going to the dealer. Since the transmission is not the best in these vehicles I didn't want to risk anything for the PT warranty. I do pretty much everything else myself

Tranny Flush?
I know this is a bit late but I just got a quote from the dealer and it's $188 for a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban. I've got 40K on it and I figure I'll do it again in another 4 years or so when it gets above 100K.
