Hey guys/gals,

Hopefully ZX can answer this question or at minimum give me the info to give my local dealer the correct direction.

I picked up a 2008 Tahoe LS in 10/2007. Decided to add the remote start option for it. Ordered it through the GMPartsDirect.com PN 19154444. The Tahoe is a stock LS and does have the AP8 code on the label in glove box.

First time I took it to dealer was right before Christmas and was late in the afternoon, they couldn't get the programming information they needed from GM at the time. Not a problem. Got a phone call couple days after Christmas they tell me they got what they needed. Brought it in and was there about 2 hours. They reprogrammed the truck three times and still no joy. Told me they needed to call GM again and find out what's going on. Got a call on Monday, asked me to bring it in. Reprogrammed it again within 30 minutes and showed me it was working.

Got home, locked the truck came back out later tried the remote start (Lock button then start button on remote). NADA. Did sometroubleshooting this evening andfound that if I cycle the Tahoe on and off. Get out of the truck press the lock button, it'll show the lock on the dash. As long as the lock is lit on the dash I can press the Start button on the remote and it will start this way everytime. However, If I lock the truck walk away for a few minutes press the lock button then press the start button parking lights will flash and if standing in front of the truck you'll hear a dull click andthe fuel pump will start. On the instrument cluster I'll have the Engine Icon lit.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Tahoe forum. Hopefully someone here can shed some lite on this.

Have you tried unlocking and then locking and then remote start? I know this isn't the way it's supposed to work but seemed more like the sequence where you said it did.

Hey Shark, thanks for the welcome.

I gave that a try, same results. Did a bit more testing and found that the Remote Start stops functioning within one minute of turning the ignition off. Doesn't matter if the truck is locked or unlocked.

Your welcome. Strictly a guess but I'd bet there's still a glitch in the programming the dealer did.

This might be a shot in the dark...but I have noticed that mine will not remotestart unless I set the alarm (honk the horn) first, then hit the remote start. It will run for about 10 min. then shut off. Good luck!

The dealership botched the programming.
Take it back and ask them to contact GM TechAssist for instruction on the proper programming proceedure.
It is fairly staright forward for most service technicians but some have problems getting it just right.

Just an update...

Finally got around to going to the dealer to get this issue resolved. Found out they had to download some new software. Remote Start is working fine now.

They forgot to reprogram the "TDM" (theft control module-for remote engine start). Anyone gets this problem ask your dealer if they repgramed the TDM for remote engine start.
