Default 95 tahoe rear end

i have 95 tahoe 5.7 w/ 3.42 10 bolt rear when i put into drive with brake held i get a loud grinding noise from rear end , and not transmission is this my ring and pinion or possibly a broken rear axle shaft vehicle has 160k miles and i run large heavy wheels/tires any help

Welcome to the Tahoe forum. What does it do in Drive w/o brakes on? Someone here should be able to provide some insight.

when i let off the brake noise continues but with no movement however does not make noise in reverse. when i tried to back up there is a clunking noise from driver side rear wheel.
