99 Suburban visors w/vanity mirrors
Hi all,
I'm in the middle of trying to replace my hubby's visors and am having trouble with the wiring hookups for the vanity mirrors. It looks like it I should be able to slide a flat screwdriver under one part, pop out the little locking "nub" (for lack of a better term) and slide the whole thing out. But, it's just not working that way! Can someone please shed some light on this for me? I'd be so thankful!

You've got the right idea. Those inline connectors sometimes are very snug, but yes, justpry upthe locking tab andpull them apart.

Phew! So I'm not going crazy! I'm just afraid of snapping off that plastic piece (because that would be my luck. Bad enough I broke one of the visors the 1st time, hence why I'm trying to fix it!)

Yay!! I got it and have them installed. God, it shouldn't have taken that long (well, a trip into town desparately trying to find a store that had a Chilton or Haynes manual didn't help). Thanks RonH for your advice! Now, lets see if hubby notices...
Thanks again!

Yeah, that's why we had to replace the whole visor. I pulled the mirror assembly all apart one day thinking that we could just replace the tab or mirror assembly, but no. We ended up replacing both visors, figuring that the other one would break before too long.
So as far as putting the mirror assembly back together, I'm afraid I won't be much help, sorry!
Damn cars, just don't make them like they used to...

Does anyone know how to change the bulbs under the vanity in a 96 tahoe? I have the cover off, one bulb is burnt out. But I can't seem to get the bulb out. It has a sleeve that extends down one side of the bulb. Chevy parts counter say's they can order replacement bulbs but couldn't tell me how to get the old bulb out. Any advice?

Same problem. I've checked multiple junk yards and keeping an eye on e-bay. The junk yards say all the Suburbans this old were traded in on cash for clunkers--destroyed. I've picked up two sliding switches from Radio Shack and I'm going to try and replace the momentary post that the mirror cover used with an on-off switch and just leave the mirrors uncovered.

I think you have the right idea... on my ex-wife's 99 Tahoe the vanity mirror lights were causing the battery to drain down... I just pulled the bulbs.
