Default Disable auto door locks

Hey everyone. Is there a way to disable the auto door lock feature when you put the car in Drive and Park for 2002 through 2005 tahoes.
Also the doors will automatically lock after a few seconds once I start driving, can this be disabled? Thanks.

Have you checked the DIC (Driver Info Center) for a disable option? I know there are several options but not sure if "disable" is one.

I work at a delaership and I don't know of anything to disable it, it's a safety thing. You can only set the lock between drive or over 8mph, and the unlock can be park, key off, or disabled

Hi viperjuice,

I work for a taxi company. Our cabs are mostly 1990-1994 series Nissan minivans.

The owner has one '06 Chevrolet Ventura, which was supposed to be the first of several replacements. It's for sale, and he just bought another used Nissan to keep us running until we find a suitable fleet replacement. There are other problems I won't mention here, but the auto-locking doors were the last straw. When driving the Ventura I have taken to joking about it, telling my customers that there is an exit fee. Seriously. People don't go looking for the door lock when they want to get out of a taxi. It's the stupidest bloody thing I've ever seen. This baby has very very low mileage for a two year old taxi -- the drivers all avoid it like the plague. When every other taxi in the yard is in service or in the shop, some poor wretch gets stuck with the Ventura. We've been hoping for a quick sale.

Tell us please how to make it unlock in Park instead of when it is turned off and we might keep it a while longer. Park I can handle -- it is unsafe to load and unload passengers in Drive. It is very new, and carries more passengers than the old ones.

Prior to model year 2005 (2004 and older) all GM SUV's and trucks have the ability to dissable the AUTO DOOR LOCK feature in the Driver Information Center (DIC) by selecting "Doors Lock Manually".
if your vehicle does not have the selectable buttons for the DIC then you can have the dealer reprogram the BCM referencing GM Document ID # 2017017

Thanks mate.

We got it in '06 but apparently it isn't. I'll figure it out when it comes back out of the shop. It got parked in someone's living room last night. Might be back in a couple weeks.

Bloody hard to find good drivers these days.

I have a 2003 Malibu LS. The auto locks were off, however I changed the starter and radiator, had to disconnect the battery and the auto locks turned back on when I hooked the battery up. I do not have a key fob, and the locks can be programmed somehow, but I can't find it anywhere. If I get it again, I'll print it out and take it somewhere in the car. The car isn't set up for a key fob BTW.

I have it here.
Good luck in your cars.

Customizing the Automatic Door Locks
One of four operating modes may be selected and programmed by the driver:
Mode 1: All doors automatically lock when the transaxle is shifted out of PARK (P). The doors will remain
locked unless manually unlocked or the lock button is pressed. All doors will unlock when the transaxle is shifted into PARK (P) and the key is turned to OFF.
Mode 2: This mode is only available with the
remote keyless entry system (if equipped). All doors automatically lock when the transaxle is shifted out of PARK (P). Automatic driver’s door only unlock when the transaxle is shifted into PARK (P) and the key
is turned to OFF.
Mode 3: All doors automatically lock when the transaxle is shifted out of PARK (P). No automatic door unlock.
Mode 4: No automatic door lock or unlock.
Before your vehicle was shipped from the factory it was programmed in Mode 1. To determine the current
mode of the vehicle or to change to a different mode, do the following:
1. Ensure the shift lever is in PARK (P) and all doors are fully closed throughout this procedure. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. PressandholdLOCKoneitherpowerdoorlock switch for 10 seconds. Release the switch when you hear the chime.
3. Count the number of chimes you hear. The number of chimes tells you which mode your vehicle is in. You can change the mode by pressing and holding LOCK on the power door lock switch
(two chimes for Mode 2, three chimes for Mode 3 and four chimes for Mode4).
4, RepeatStep2untilyouhearthenumber ofchimes that matches the mode you want.
The mode you selected is now set.

Is there a way to do this if you don't have the power locks?

I don't understand how unlocking the doors when the vehicle is turned off can be a safety thing. If a single person is in the vehicle and turns it off, when all of the doors unlock makes then at risk for someone to jump in and...
