I am new to the Chevy motors having been a( dare I say it on here) Ford guy. I am getting ready to buy a 96 suburban with a 5.7 Liter. I want to buy an extra block to rebuild so that I have an extra engine to replace the one that is in it when it craps out. Is there a difference in the different years of 350 blocks? If so, what years are the same?

Most parts for the suburbans are the same 92-99 So I'd imagine that any of the blocks for the 350 during those years would be the same.

Check w/ a salvage yard. There's a manual/book (name escapes me) that lists all of that info. Might be able to find it on-line.

it should just be a chevy long block 350 vortec motor

to be safe get a 96 to 99 engine they are all vortec in those years so they should all be the same pre 96 is not a vortec and may have the same casting and it may not so by staying in these year ranges you would be safe

also i wouldnt plan on it ''crapping out'' anytime soon i had a 92 gmc 4x4 when i was younger it had over 300,000 miles on it and my dad owns a 97 with over 600,000 miles on it never had the valve covers off

Thanks for the info. I was just thinking I would have to replace it eventually. I bought a 99 suburban ls 4x4 about a week ago and I wanted to start building a replacement engine for it if it went out. I noticed a lot of suburbans in the adds around here saying that they had new engines in them, so I thought they must go out around 250,000 miles.

I pulled the 5.7 out of my 96 Hoe at 200K and then mostly cause I wanted to refresh it. ended up droppping in a brand new crate motor. PM me if you are interested in a project block. new cam bearings and all.
