Compare a 13Suburban2500FL to 15Silverado1500
I am considering replacing my 2013 Suburban 2500FL with a 2015 Silverado1500 High Country Crew Cab Short Bed.
I've heard the 6.0 engine is very durable and I don't know anything about the 5.3 Aluminum block in the Silverado. After a couple of years of tinkering I've got the Suburban running well.
But as we know the fuel economy of the 6.0 is bad and I need a cheaper daily driver while keeping the tow capacity. I need 8500# towing and the Silverado is rated at 9200.
Also I've heard some negative comments about the Active Fuel Management; which the Silverado has and the Suburban does not.
What else should I consider?

Make sure that Silverado 1500 has the extra oil cooler and other requirements to meet the max towing capacity. I would take a peek at the RPO codes in the glove box or use a VIN decoder to check. I've got two 1500's (1996 and 2006) and while the owner manual says they can tow 6000 and 6200 pounds respectively, there are footnotes saying that an extra oil cooler is required in both cases, and neither has it, limiting them to more like 2000 pounds towing capacity. I am guessing your 2500 does have the cooler(s). My son-in-laws Denali with a 6.2 does.
Not a deal breaker, but if it is missing the cooler, you will need to add an aftermarket one before towing.

Thanks. Yes I used the VIN Decoder here in this site; the Silverado has the transmission oil cooler for towing.
I am mostly interested in folks knowledge of and experience with the 5.3L with AFM. Last night I was told by a former dealership employee that the engine is about indestructible and AFM has improved since the old Cadillac Northstar days.

Sorry - while I owned a Yukon with a 5.3L Vortec that towed great, it was a 2003 and predated the AFM stuff. Or aluminum blocks...
Good luck making a decision!

Do you know how you can tell when a dealer is lying?
