Low Oil/Add Oil warning msg
I have an 07 Suburban w/the 5.3L engine, 43,000 miles and have been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil since new. Between the last 3 or 4 oil changes I get the low oil/add oil message and am down a half quart or quart. Computer says I have 25% oil life left, last time it was about 40%. There doesn't appear to be any noticable leaks. Is this normal with synthetic oil?

If i remeber right gm says the motor can use so much oil every so many miles. so say every 2,000 miles gm says it is ok for it to use some oil not sure on the amount. I change my oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles at most and never let it go past that. I don't go by the computer in the truck. If I change my oil at 3,000 I think the truck says there is still like 55-60% left.

Thanks for the response. I've always wondered what factors the computer takes into account to determine what % of oil life is remaining. Since I've been using synthetic, I have gone over 3,000 miles between changes and have been going by what the vehicle says, it's been very close to 4,000 miles most of the time.

the OLMS takes into account your driving situations ( habits) and will calculate in towing as well...
IF you follow the OLMS you will most likely be changing your oil every 4K to 12k miles regardless of weather you use crude based or full synthetic, the system does not know which oil you use so the system is based on the assumption that standard grade detergent crude based oil is used.
Synthetic is made to be slipperier, more heat/cold tolerant and more durable, other then that its just like regular oil.
Changing every 3k is a MYTH and is not needed except in extreme contitions, you gain nothing but a lighter pocket by changing ever 3k if you do normal driving and some towing on paved roads in most of America.
Straight from the Generals mouth....

I've run Mobil 1 in my five three since new, and I lose perhaps a half quart between changes, and I run mine out seven or eight thousand miles. I've never gotten the Low Oil light.

Ditto on mine. Didn't even know there was a "Low Oil" lite.
FWIW on the BBC engines back in the 60s & 70s, Chevy didn't consider oil usage a problem unless it was more than a quart every 500 miles. Ouch.
