low oil pressure warning and 0 oil pressure on gauge
I drove my 2003 Tahoe this morning, no problem. Went to start up this afternoon. Acted like it had a weak battery, but then started up. I hear an odd "ticking" noise from under the hood and the "OIL PRESSURE LOW" warning is on the dash. Also, the oil pressure gauge is reading zero. I shut off the engine and tried it a little later. Same results. Oil level is in the good range.
I am not a DIY kind of person. The mechanic that I have used in the past is about 10 miles from the house. Am I safe driving the vehicle to the mechanic, or should I consider having it towed?

Welcome to the forum.
Since your oil level is OK and you're hearing a ticking noise, it sounds like you have no oil pressure as the gauge is telling you. Unless someone else has a better idea, I'd recommend having it towed.

started ok the second time
It actually started ok then second time that I tried it, as well as when I had a friend listen to it. The manual said "stop when next safe to do so and have it looked at by a mechanic". I don't know if this means STOP NOW! or if it means "ok to drive to the shop".

Drive or not?? It depends...... At 10 years old, the damage is probably already done and you need a new motor either way. Even if they fix the oil pressure problem, it will probably spin a bearing soon, because of the damage already done.
