Default Is it normal for the CEL to....

Hello all-
Is it normal for the CEL to be on when the key is on, but the vehicle is not yet started? I just put a new MIT on my 07 burb and wanted to take a pic of my avg economy before and after the intake tube installation. That's when I noticed before start up that the CEL stays on, after all the others have gone out. As soon as I start it though, it turns off and stays off. Also remote start functions normal. Maybe I just never noticed this before? I always thought that meant it had a code stuck in its memory, but my (albeit cheapo) scanner doesn't find anything. Can anyone tell me if theirs does this too?

Yes, this is normal. If the CEL stays on after the truck is started, then it has a code or codes stored.
