Rain sensing wipers

Rain sensing wipers
First drive in the rain in my new (to me) burb. Light mist, turned on the intermittent wipers, one swipe, nothing else. BOO! Does the same thing on each speed. But regular and high speeds work just fine. So I try the back one, intermittent works just fine on that one. So I do a little research, sounds like the rain sensing wiper system has a problem. So I take off the little cover, pull the connector, and now my intermittents work just fine. Never had RSW's before, so doubt I will miss them. But while trying to narrow down the problem, I noticed my windshield looks like an aftermarket one, like it's been replaced. The area where the sensor is mounted is darkened. Tinted as well as has that dark checkered stuff they put in between the two visors to block out the sun. Can anyone with a working RSW system confirm for me if their windshield is like this, or if I have another issue? TIA.

On my 2007, the RainSense would cause the wipers to wipe at whatever speed was necessary to cope w/ the amount of rain hitting the windshield. So if it was a slight mist or you happened to get hit once w/ a lawn sprinkler, it would wipe once and quit.

Is your windshield clear or blackened above the rear view?

I have a 2010 now which doesn't have the RainSense. I don't remember if the 2007 had anything different than the standard blocked out area over the review mirror.

I have the RSW on my Burb. Here's a (crappy cell phone) pic:
There does not appear to be checkering in the area for the sensor.
Also, the adjustments on the stalk, which for normal intermittent wipers would be the speed, are to the sensitivity of the sensor. Closest to off is least sensitive.

hmm
i hate it when I get the wrong windshield!
I do like the rain sense setup though... I know it sounds stupid, but like the A/C ****, I don't want to keep adjusting stuff while I'm driving
the rain-sense does a well enough job.
my jeep does something similar, but a lot cheaper to implement...
below 20 MPH it cuts the delay in half (or doubles it I mean).
so below 20 the delay between wipes is longer, as you get less water the on screen...
above 20 it's faster...
so, poor mans way of doing rain sense...
