I'd go with an aftermarket replacement as to avoid this same issue in the future.

PacaG: Welcome to the forum.

Be sure to support the hatch w/ a 2X4 or equivalent as it is VERY heavy and could seriously eat your lunch w/o the gas struts.

They are inexpensive and VERY easy to replace.

As stated, you can probably find the parts at your local auto parts store, if you need to find parts online, gm parts direct and rock auto are good sources as well as some of the sponsored link suppliers on the banners to the right ------>

Default Replace the pair

The same happened to my truck. I replaced both of them. It took less than 5 minutes to replace each of them. I purchased mine on eBay.........

Hood Tailgate Struts, SMALL ENGINE PARTS items in Auto Express Parts store on eBay!

Good luck!

I thought I was going to have to replace mine this past winter, turns out that they are fine it was just the cold was causing them to loose support, now that its regularly 100+ out they are fine. If they are not supporting the hatch in warm weather they are most very likely bad....
