Default service ride control options

My question is; should I repair the air ride system or replace it with heavy duty shocks in the rear?
We have a 2005 1500 2WD LT Suburban that has a "service ride control" message. When I had my last oil change at the Chevy dealer, the writer told me it would be expensive to replace the system. He said I'd be better off disabling it and installing heavy duty shocks. I'm due for an oil change this week so I'll ask for an estimate to repair the air ride system and another estimate to install HD shocks.

They have options that are way cheaper than the factory.
