I have 98,000 miles on my 03 Tahoe, should I use Synthetic or Standard Oil, Is it Really... worth the double the price or more???
My regular oil change intervals are at 3,500 miles and have only being using standard oil with out a problem BUT should I being using Synthetic??

Default Don't move to synthetic this late

You might develop leaks if you have that many miles.

The right time to convert to synthetic is around 6K miles and/or after full break-in.

Changing to synthetic WILL NOT cause leaks. If you already have a slight oil leak and you switch to synthetic it MAY leak worse because the molecules are smaller and more slippery. As long as you change your oil regularly then you are fine. At that mileage any wear on the engine is already happened if you start with a newer engine the wear will happen at a much slower rate.

For me 3,500 miles between drains doesn't warrant synthetic oil. I use synthetic oil in the mine initially because I was driving 100 miles a day to work and back. Now I use it because it sits in the driveway most of the time, and I'll be going perhaps a year between drains. Personally. I'd stay with what you're using unless your drain intervals are many months apart.

The synthetic may cost 2x more but you will not need to change it as often...
pay more to do less or pay less to do more... its how it works

and 3k oil changes are BS even with regular oil... the wifes minivan is a 4 cyl. with nearly 90k miles on it and I have her get the oil changed at 4-5k miles with standard oil and its still running strong...

I used mobile-1 in my 97 Tahoe and at times would go 12K on an oil change and it was still running great at 147k.

My current 07 Tahoe is at 23k miles and is coming up on its 3rd oil change and that is based on the Oil Life Monitoring System's recommendation with standard oil , thou I do use Mobil1 in it also.

It comes down to:
how long do you plan to own it
How well do you maintain it
How do you drive it
What kind of conditions do you drive in
