Trailer Lights
A 2001 Suburban with the following Symptom:
1. The Taillights on trailer do not work, the Turn Signals and Brake Lights function properly.
2. All lights on Suburban work correctly.
3. No 12vdc at the Trailer Connection or plug to the receptacle when headlights on.
4. No continuity from Brown wire at Receptacle to Ground.
All of that tells me that the Tail Light (Brown Wire) is broken/loose/diconnected somewhere in the Suburban.
My question is, does anyone know if the wiring for the Trailer Receptacle (specifically the Tail Light/ Brake Lights) go up to the Tail Light Assembly on the Sub or does it go forward to the Engine/Dash area to pick up its power. I have a feeling it goes forward to pick up its power as there is Trailer Brake Controller connections at the recepticle.
My Son-in-Law will be here tomorrow to trace and fix the problem. I will appreciate your help.

you may have just a blown fuse under the hood .look in the owners manual it will tell you that there is separate fuses for the trailer tow circuit .there is a large 40 amp maxi fuse for the 12 vt lead in the plug ,and separate mini fuse for each other function probably 15-20 amp .

I had the same exact problem a few days ago. But I finally got around to check my fuses underneath the hood and sure enough, my 15amp fuse for the trailer lamps was blown. I had pulled a buddy's trailer when it happened and discovered one of his brown wires was making contact with the trailer where it was rubbing and wore of the plastic covering.
