Default 2005 Suburban Smoking - Vortec 5.3L

Almost every time I start the engine I get a large blue cloud of smoke and then it's gone. It doesn't smoke while driving at all, even if I get on it entering the highway.
It goes through oil at the rate of about 2 1/2 quarts every 4-5 weeks, though there is not much on the driveway. It's only got about 180K on it and the engine runs great.

What am I looking at to fix this? Head gasket? or more? If I can fix this myself, it'll save me getting rid of it.

If needed I can post a video...

Thanks folks!

It's probably a valve seal leaking. You will have to run a compression check to make sure it isn't rings. My bet valve seal time

Check the calve cover. I had a similar problem thinking it was a head gasket but it turns out the valve cover has a baffle that goes bad and sucks oil in via the pcv
