Default 2006 Trailblazer intermittent front passenger side noise

4WD and 72,000 miles on vehicle. It has happened six times in the past 2000 miles. I am driving around 35mph and hit a fairly soft bump in the road and it sounds and feels like I have a flat tire on the front passenger side. I slow down to pull over and when I get to around 5-10 mph it quits. Also probably doesn't matter, but my check engine light has been on constantly around the same time it started. I doubt related at all. And two weeks ago my 4WD worked flawlessly and this past week it will not engage at all. The light for 4hi stays lit when I turn the **** to it, but when I turn the **** to 4low it flashes and goes back to 2wd. I'm guessing that's the actuator or something, but just adding that info in case somebody thinks it's related to the noise issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Has a thorough visual inspection been performed?

I gave it another good looking over today and it all looks fine. Seems like to me it could be the differential starting to fail. It's always at those exact speeds and highly intermittent. I hate to take it to a mechanic just so he can tell me it's not showing a problem and nothing he can do or he starts guessing with repairs until he gets it.

Take your mechanic for a test drive to diagnose the issue. Even better let him/her drive so they can feel the issue themselves.
