Default VIN to find differential ratio

Can I user the VIN to find the differential ratio? We want to buy a travel trailer and the towing capacity is dependent on which rear end we have. As it is a used vehicle with no history, how can I find out?

Welcome to the forum..
I don't know if the VIN will provide it as easily as the RPO codes will...
you can find the RPO's in the glove box...
What year model are you looking for/at?

Default front and rear axle ratios

in regard to my 99 suburban K1500 w/AT I have a question: is the rear axle ratio the same as the front axle ratio? I don't know why it would not be, but just checkin'....
Thanks.

front and rears should be the same or it will tear something apart.
