Default Noise from steering colunm.

Hi Yall,
Got a slight noise coming from the steering colunm during turns. It sounds like a slight rub or whine from inside the colunm housing. So slight AC, radio or open window drowns it out. I opened the colunm and and sprayed WD40 on steering components. no change. I thought it was just some sand or dirt in the steering colunm. Anyone have a thought. Just a noise or a big deal?

Your time is appreciated, thank you!

What year and mileage on your Uplander. Have you owned it since new?

I get an occasional squeal like that in my SS. Probably no big deal.

My 06 does the same from time to time. Nothing to worry about, I think.

Sounds like it should be covered under the 3yr "bumper-to-bumper" warranty. Let us know what the dealer says about it.
I used to have a Toyota Corolla that did the same thing, usually got worse in the fall/winter.

Where is the seal located that is the problem? I have it also on my 2005 and it has been there since about the 3rd year. No other problem noticed except the noise.

I just bought an 07 Silverado 3500 and when turning the wheel it would make noise also. Found out it was the Intermediate Steering Shaft. Bought a new improved shaft and installed it myself. Here is a link that shows how to relube it but it will only last 10k. Buy the new updated part and use the link on how to install the new part.

@mjorg; thank you for taking the time to post the link to give some idea what might be the problem on our Uplanders. It is certainly something that can be discussed with GM when talking with GM about repairs on warranty [for those that still have warranty on our vehicles]
