It depends on the car, but, the recommendation would be to get it reprogrammed using a GM Tech-II Scanner.

No way to program without a scan tool or programmer, and not one of the cheap ones
Either dealer or locksmith (usually cheaper).
I have a Snap-On MODIS and was able to use it.

FORscan is Ford (Lincoln) only.

Keyless entry systems have become a staple in the automotive world, and their use is as widespread as power windows. The remote is programmed to work with one specific vehicle, and the vehicle will usually come from the factory with a couple of remotes already programmed to be used with it. If these remotes get lost or stop working, it is possible to order more remotes that will work with your vehicle.

The Chevrolet Uplander keyless entry system relies on remote transmitters for access to your vehicle and control of the lock system. You can add up to four keyless entry remotes to the Uplander's power lock system. Save the expense of visiting a dealer by programming the new remotes at home. Buy a replacement remote from an auto parts retailer or Chevrolet dealer.
