Chuck in RI

Was driving on the highway at approx 50mph, hit two slush pockets (rain snow mix), van stalled out on highway lost gauges. Was able to get van over to side of the road, had no response from turning key in ignition. Did still have lights, hazards and electrical accessories. After about 20 minutes vehicle would crank but not start. Towed back home sat overnight, vehicle still cranks but won't start. One oddity I noticed was my gas gauge dropped from a half a tank to empty and gauge will not rise above empty, I do know there was a hair below a half a tank when vehicle stalled.
Any advice or assistance in determining my problem would be greatly appreciated.
