Default 1998 engine needs replacement.

my Inlaws 1998 venture van shelled out the engine today. We are talking with the repair shop (dealership) trying to figure out whether to buy a rebuilt (jasper engine) or find a salvage yard engine.
Will a 2005 3.4 v6 work easily in this vehicle. The interchange numbers are different but is that only because of power specifications and not fit? Does anyone have any experience with this ?
Thanks

I've done a few GM 60 deg. V-6s, but they never varied in years that much. GM changes stuff quite a bit. It will probably fit, but you may be swapping manifolds, sensors, and what not. Hold off for the correct engine if you have the time/money. It might be cheaper in the long run for you, if your mech. has to swap over parts, and solve unseen issues after the fact. Good luck.
