Rare California Cheyenne Stepside Heads to Auction in Florida

1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne

One of 755 1972 K20 Cheyenne pickups with a stepside long bed still has its original 350 and a beautiful oak bed.

While we appreciate all of the new Chevy pickups available in the showroom now and in the near future, there’s just something about an old Chevy truck that stirs the spirit. When your favorite song about Chevys plays on the country station, you’re thinking of the sort of trucks Bob Seger once praised, ones that worked hard at any job.

We found such a truck the other day while combing through the listings for Mecum Auctions’ week-and-a-half long stay in Kissimmee, Florida this coming January: a rare 1972 K20 Cheyenne stepside long bed.

Built in Fremont, California and still in possession of its California registration cards, the Cheyenne is one of 755 K20 Cheyennes with a stepside long bed, which rides high on a set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/As these days.

Mounted above the front pair of T/As is the original 350 V8, which sends it all through a four-speed manual to the corners, the rear set linked together through a 4.10 Posi-Trac.

Inside, the cab has factory buckets, AC, and console. The glove box contains all of the original documentation, including the original Protect-O-Plate warranty card. The wood and chrome steering wheel is an excellent touch, too.

Speaking of wood, the bed is dressed up with oak slats and polished stainless steel strips. The oak and stainless steel stakes pull everything together, giving the Cheyenne a timeless look.

No doubt this green rarity will make everyone green with envy when it rolls into town.
