Starting issue with my ‘98 Chevy 1500 2WD 5.7 liter
So I am having an issue with my truck starting consistently. (166258 miles) It has no problem starting in the morning (cold start) but has an issue after being turned off or if it warms up. It starts after long periods of cranking. What I have checked and done. 1. Changed fuel filter. 2. Checked fuel pressure. Was okay. 3. Changed spark plugs. 4. Opened oil spout while running to check compression. No oil was spit out. 5. Connected to computer. Zero codes. 6. No issue on accelerating once running. 7. No issue pulling hills once started. |
not everyone has the answer, not everyone see 's the post. when that happens bump your own post so it comes to the top of the list at 6-8pm when there is alot of activity.
port injection or throttle body? hard starts after a hot soak can be from injector leakdown. did you check for pressure drop after the pressure test? |
I had similar problems with my 97 z71
my truck had 170000+ on it 5.7 engine my distributor bearing was worn out and would let the shaft move back and forth causing the pick ups to be too far apart for a consistent spark to be made.they can be rebuilt but i just bought a rebuilt one from oreillys...took care of my problem its been good since i got it in, it is simple to check that bearing too...take distributor cap off and try to move the shaft back and forth...too much movement will stop the pick ups from working JR |

Un plug the temp sensor at the base of the thermostat housing. It can cause all kind of weird things to happen. It will run better within seconds.
