Purchasing 2005 Silverado

Hi All,

I'm new to the Chevy world after a long time in the Ford and Volvo underworld. I'm thinking of purchasing a 2005 Silverado Z71 with the 5.3 Vortec (not the L33 sadly, that one slipped away), 4-speed auto, and extended cab with 120k for 8k (They don't loose value in New York apparently). The carfax shows reliable oil changes throughout the truck's life as well as transmission fluid changes.

I will be checking all the suspension parts, listening for valve ping, feeling out the transmission, wet spots, etc. I'm just curious if there is anything specific to the 05 Z71 I should watch out/check for?

Avoid active fuel management.

watch for rust.

Transfer cases and and trans. I think that one would be clear of the transfer case pump rub issue, but the 4l60's are known to be a weak link if not taken good care of.

afm was not introduced until 2007 so your ok there
1999 to 2006 were a very good generation. has seen many in the 300 to 400 kilometer range. Mine had 355 and was still running strong when I sold it.
+1 for rust on the cab rear corners and rocker panels...your in the rust belt
8g price is very high
broken exhaust manifold bolts, fluid leaks, bad wheel speed sensors are common but are things that I would not consider serious. the engines are very good.

Good point, I always get confused as to when they started with the AFM...

And x2 on the exhaust manifold bolts.

the start of the newer bodystyle is how I remember it...2007 to 2010 afm I would be wary of.
