Ground Connection Locations
 

Is there a list anywhere that shows where all the important ground connectors are located at for all the different models of Chevy / GMC pickups?

So far on my truck I have found 3 ground connections... one coming from the negative battery cable to the passenger side cylinder head, another coming from the body to the driver's side cylinder head, and another under the driver's side floor board coming out of a wiring harness and connects to the frame.

I heard the ECM has it's own ground wire too towards the front of the truck but so far on mine I have not spent time looking for that one yet. (My truck is a 2011 Silverado 5.3L Ext Cab, 2WD)

Just curious is anybody know of a handy list that tells people where to find the ground connectors so they can be cleaned and maintained since ground connections are very important.

Yes. https://charm.li has the ground locations listed on a chart. I just pulled up a random GMT900 vehicle, a 2010 Silverado 5.3, and found it under Locations, and then Ground Locations:

There is a separate "Grounds by Number" in the index, and if you click on the different ground numbers, diagrams of the location come up.

Yep - you can download the entire thing. I learned about it here too, when I first joined, and its been very useful.

Well, my goal is to find all these ground connections and clean them really good and put them back together with a little dielectic grease to help prevent these contacts from getting corroded going forward.

The ones I've worked on so far don't appear to have anything on them from the factory to protect them from corrosion.

Maybe that's part of their revenue stream... counting on bad ground connections to bring vehicles in to their shop for service so they can sell people new ECMs and BCMs when all they really need is better ground connections.
