truck won't start after fill up
I can see from a Google search this is a common problem for most vehicles. but I can't find a suggestion for what to do if it continues. symptoms were nothing new, truck would turn over, but not start after filling up with gas. it didn't matter if it was a 2 gallon gas can on a 1/4 full tank, or a complete fill up. Waiting about 20 minutes and pressing the gas pedal are the only ways to get it started. I've replaced the purge solenoid and gas cap, made no difference. what's next?

just to clarify, the solenoid you replaced...where on the vehicle is it located?
|
Fwd of the gas tank, 2 ports plus a plug on the unit, plus a filter cartridge that was routed over the transmission. Oreillys part #CPV44

you replaced the evaporative vent solenoid not the purge solenoid, the purge solenoid is in the engine bay (no vehicle posted so I'm being generic) and your most likely cause. If you unhook the line coming from the rear of the vehicle and idle the engine you should NOT be able to feel vacuum going through the solenoid, if you do it needs replaced. You can unplug the electrical connector also to be sure that the solenoid is closed.

My apologies I thought it pulled info in from my profile like some other forums I'm on. 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT ext cab Z71, 145,000. Also you're correct, the vent solenoid was the most recent change, the purge solenoid was actually changed with plugs earlier, small cube just behind the alternator.

did you check to see if the purge solenoid is leaking vacuum at idle? Just because its been changed previously doesn't mean its not the issue.
|
Back end port is pulling a strong vacuum at idle

Replaced the purge solenoid again, all is back to normal, thanks everyone! I wouldn't have thought to go back to something I'd just replaced.

glad you got it, quality parts are getting harder and harder to come by
