Corsica tranny issues

Hi,
I have a 1990 corsica LT, 3.1 ltr w/ auto & air, Having a problem with transmission not downshifting after driving on highway. Sometimes have to kick into neutral until full stop, shift to Park then back to drive- sometimes even then it will stall. Just tooling around on back roads I have no problems.
I exist on SSI disability so taking to tranny shop not really a possibility.
Anyone have any suggestions where to start looking for problems?

RE: Corsica tranny issues

Does your trans have overdrive? If not you have a 3 speed trans and most likely it will be a tcc solenoid sticking. When this happens when you come off the highway does it chug like a manual trans that hasn't been downshifted? If so you can either replace the solenoid or cut the wire going to it, i think its the purple on at the trans connector.
